About Me

My name is Jim Chiu. I'm an engineer, an architect, and a founder.

I'm fundamentally curious about how new things work. My career has been a series of deliberate pivots into new, complex fields. For me, the only way to truly understand a new domain is to deconstruct it from first principles. This isn't just learning; it's a process of building understanding.

Learning, by itself, isn't the goal. The real value comes from translating and creating. I thrive in the role of a translator and architect. I enjoy facing a chaotic, fragmented system - whether it's an abstract concept, a broken ecosystem, or a complex technical challenge. I deconstruct it, then design a scalable, simpler, and more accessible solution.

Ultimately, even the best architecture must be built. This founder's mindset has been the common thread through all my experiences. This belief started in university, where the organizations I founded are still active over a decade later. Today, this mindset is embodied in my role as a co-founder where I'm responsible for architecting not only the technical platforms but also the operating systems that bring them to life.

My Vision

I founded Holonomy Systems on a different set of beliefs.

For fifty years, fusion has been “thirty years away”. It became the permanent science project, a promise always deferred by the complexity of chaos.

But the timeline has shifted. The exponential rise of AI has collided with the hard limits of our energy infrastructure. We are building digital minds that consume cities of power, yet our grid is stuck in the last century. Energy scarcity is now the single greatest bottleneck to the expansion of intelligence.

The physics is understood. The urgency is absolute. The only missing variable is an architecture that scales.

We don’t wait for stars. We manufacture them.

Energy is a Manufacturing Problem

Exponential change never comes from building single, massive structures. It comes from mass-producing billions of modular units. We need Moore’s Law applied to energy.

Software Defines Physics

Future fields, whether magnetic or photonic, will not be shaped by hardware, but by software. By replacing passive components with active algorithms, we build the ultimate machine.

The Unity of Security and Prosperity

The capability to precisely direct energy to neutralize a threat is the same capability required to compress fuel for ignition. The physics is identical; only the application changes.
